STONY BROOK, NY – The Elon Phoenix women's basketball battled down to the final minutes but ultimately fell 62-58 to the Seawolves on Sunday afternoon.
LaNae' Corbett paced Elon with 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting and a perfect 3-for-3 mark from the free-throw line.
Quinzia Fulmore also reached double figures, finishing with 11 points on a flawless 5-of-5 effort from the field.
Elon dropped to 14–14 overall and 9–7 in CAA play, while Stony Brook improved to 17–12 overall and 12-4 in conference action.
THE RUNDOWN
- Elon jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the first quarter and later led 12-8. An and-one from LaNae' Corbett pushed the Phoenix ahead 15-8, but the Seawolves closed the frame on an 8-2 run to cut the deficit to 17-16 after one.
- Stony Brook opened the second quarter with an 8-2 run to take a 24-19 lead at the 6:37 mark. Elon answered with an 8-2 run to regain a 27-26 edge before a late Seawolves three-pointer gave them a 29-27 halftime lead.
- Elon quickly regained a 33-32 lead before the teams traded baskets, eventually tying the score at 39-39. The Phoenix closed the quarter on a 7-4 run to take a 46-43 lead into the final frame.
- The teams traded baskets in the fourth and were tied 52-52 with 4:49 remaining. Stony Brook used a 5-0 run to take a 57-52 lead and later went up 61-54. Elon cut the deficit to 61-58, but the Seawolves sealed the 62-58 win at the free-throw line.
NOTES
- LaNae' Corbett recorded her 17th double-figure game of the season, finishing with 19 points and a team-best three steals.
- Quinzia Fulmore added 11 points, shooting a perfect 5-for-5 from the field.
- Fulmore and Tamia Watkins led the team with five rebounds each, while Maraja Pass dished out a team-high four assists.
- The Phoenix controlled the offensive glass in the first half, holding a 10-1 advantage.
- Elon dominated the paint, outscoring the Seawolves 44-14.
- The Phoenix limited Stony Brook to just 18 total rebounds, the fewest they have allowed this season.
- Kamryn Doty rejoined Elon's starting lineup alongside LaNae' Corbett, Maraja Pass, Tyana Walker, and Tamia Watkins.
