WILLIAMSBURG, VA – The Elon Phoenix women's basketball team dropped its final regular-season road matchup, 70–59, at William & Mary despite a strong second-half push on Thursday night at Kaplan Arena.
LaNae' Corbett led Elon with 13 points on 4-of-7 shooting and 5-for-6 from the free-throw line.
Quinzia Fulmore (11) and
Kamryn Doty (10) also reached double figures, with Fulmore going 5-for-6 from the charity stripe.
Elon dropped to 14–15 overall and 9–8 in CAA play, while William & Mary improved to 15-13 overall and 8-9 in conference action.
THE RUNDOWN
- The Tribe jumped out to a quick 10–0 lead, forcing an Elon timeout. The Phoenix responded with a 9–2 run to cut the deficit to three at 12–9, but William & Mary closed the quarter on an 8–0 run to lead 20–9 after one.
- The Tribe opened the second quarter with a 13–3 run to take a 33–12 lead. Elon answered with a 10–4 run to cut the deficit to 15, trailing 37–22 at halftime.
- The Phoenix opened the third quarter on an 11–5 run, cutting the deficit to single digits at 42–33 with 4:59 remaining. Elon later trimmed the margin to six at 42–36, but William & Mary pushed the lead back to 10 at 48–38 heading into the final quarter.
- The teams traded baskets before a 6–0 Phoenix run cut the deficit to six at 52–46. The teams continued to go back and forth before the Tribe sealed a 70–59 win at the free-throw line.
NOTES
- LaNae' Corbett recorded her 18th double-figure game of the season, leading the team with 13 points.
- Quinzia Fulmore reached double figures for the eighth time this season with 11 points, going 5-for-6 from the free-throw line.
- Kamryn Doty added 10 points, going 2-for-2 from three, marking her fourth double-figure performance of the season.
- Maraja Pass and Tamia Watkins led the team with six rebounds apiece.
- Elon controlled the offensive glass for the 20th time this season, outrebounding William & Mary 18–11 on the offensive boards and 42–33 overall.
- Elon returned the same starting lineup of LaNae' Corbett, Kamryn Doty, Maraja Pass, Tyana Walker, and Tamia Watkins.
