Elon Drops Northeastern Series Finale

Denty Drives Home Three In Loss

Brookline, Mass. – Elon baseball collected a series-high 10 hits on Sunday, but could not capitalize as the Phoenix (10-13, 3-6 CAA) fell to Northeastern (12-9, 7-2 CAA), 17-7 in eight innings.
 
Kevin Denty drove in a season-high three runs, including two on an RBI triple. Jackson Alford had another multi-hit day, his eighth of the season. Nine different Phoenix batters registered a hit in the loss.
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • For the second time in the series, Elon struck in the first inning. Denty drove in the opening run on a sacrifice fly to score Alford.
  • Northeastern responded with three runs in with a run in the first and two runs in the second to take a 3-1 lead into the fourth.
  • The Huskies broke the game open in the fourth with seven, two-out runs to take a 10-1 advantage.
  • Elon chipped away with three runs in the fifth inning. A Brian DuRoff single drove in the first run while Denty's triple drove in the second and third of the inning.
  • After the Huskies responded with six of their own, the Phoenix added three runs in the seventh. Three straight RBI singles from Lawson Wheeler, Jared Hall and Jake Hajdu moved the deficit to nine.
  • Northeastern plated the final run of the game in the eighth inning with a double to activate the run rule.
 
QUICK HITS
  • Elon accumulated 10 hits in a game for the sixth time this season.
  • Tommy Mitchell made his first career weekend start on Sunday.
  • Kevin Denty drove in a season high three runs in the loss. The Denty triple was just the second of the season for the Phoenix.
  • Jackson Alford had his eighth multi-hit game of the season. Alford singled twice and scored two runs.
  • Jared Hall, Jake Hajdu and Lawson Wheeler all singled and drove in a run in the loss.
  • Gavin Bogdanchik and Nate Sterling combined to go 2-for-4 behind the plate with a run scored.
