Elon Falls To Wake Forest

DuRoff Reaches Base Three Times In Loss

Winston-Salem – Elon baseball (10-14, 3-6 CAA) ended its nine-game road trip with a midweek loss to Wake Forest (18-7, 4-5 ACC), 11-1 in seven innings.  
 
Brian DuRoff was a lone bright spot in the batting order for the Phoenix as he reached base three times. Brent Smith added his first hit of the season in the loss.  
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Wake Forest struck early with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first.  
  • The Demon Deacons continued to bring runs across with two in the third and one in the fourth.  
  • Elon scored their lone run of the game when Jake Hajdu scored off a bases loaded wild pitch.  
  • The Demon Deacons responded in the bottom of the frame with two more runs to take a 7-1 lead.  
  • The Wake Forest bats erupted in the seventh inning with four runs on multiple extra-base hits to take the lone meeting of the season with the Phoenix.  
 
QUICK HITS 
  • Brent Smith collected his first hit of the season in the loss.  
  • Brian DuRoff did not register an at-bat but reached base three times in the loss. 
  • Mike Staiano threw 1.1 innings of shutout relief. Staiano also struck out two Wake Forest batters.   
 
UP NEXT 
Elon returns home to face Monmouth for a weekend series at Latham Park. First pitch on Friday between the Phoenix and Hawks will be at 4 p.m.
