ELON – Elon baseball (10-16, 3-8 CAA) dropped game two of its weekend series to Monmouth (13-10, 9-2 CAA) on Saturday, 9-7 at Latham Park.
Elon tallied multiple hits throughout the lineup, highlighted by a leadoff home run from
Jackson Alford and run production from the middle of the order. Multiple Elon batters each contributed at the plate with extra base hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Monmouth struck first in the opening inning with a pair of runs on an RBI double.
- Alford responded with a home run in the bottom of the frame to halve the Monmouth lead.
- The hawks responded with four combined runs in the next two frames to pull ahead, 6-1.
- The Elon offense surged in the bottom of the sixth.
- Extra base hits from DuRoff, Jake Hajdu, and Alford helped bring in five runs to tie the score at six.
- The Hawks brought home 3 runs in the top of the 7th to regain the lead.
- Elon scored a run in the bottom of the 9th but could not bring home the game-tying run.
QUICK HITS
- Jackson Alford finished with 2 extra base hits, a homerun and double. The homerun was his 2nd of the season.
- Brian DuRoff recorded a multi-hit performance for the Phoenix. His 3 hits were tied for the team lead; his homerun was his 3rd of the season.
- Kevin Denty doubled and drove in a run in the loss. He has driven in a run in 3 straight weekend games.
- Jake Hajdu contributed with a fifth inning double. The shortstop drove in a pair of runs as well.
- Gavin Bogdanchik contributed a multiple hit day. Bogdanchik added 2 singles of Elon's 14 hits.
- Jared Hall collected three hits on Saturday. The three-hit performance was his first of the season.
- Sam Nomura got back on track in 2 innings of no-run ball.
