RICHMOND, Va. – Following a perfect week in doubles and singles, Elon junior
Mariana Reding was selected as the CAA Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Reding won all six of her matches in a 3-0 week for the Phoenix. Her three singles victories came at the No. 3 spot, beginning with a 7-6 (1), 6-2 win against Juana Gomez Weiss of North Carolina A&T. She then defeated Wofford's Katie Godfree, 7-5, 6-2, before beating Ellie Hammond of Davidson, 7-6 (2), 6-3. The victory against the Wildcats clinched a 4-0 sweep for Elon.
In doubles, Reding paired up with Simone Bergeron for a trio of victories at the No. 1 spot, helping the Phoenix secure the doubles point in all three matches. They won 6-4 against Gomez Weiss and Flavia Villegas of North Carolina A&T before blanking Wofford's tandem of Grace Agster and
Ella Suk, 6-0. Elon's top duo then clinched the doubles point against Davidson with a 6-3 triumph against Bryson Langford and Savanna Kollock.
Reding did not drop a set in any of her six wins, going a perfect 9-0 in doubles and singles frames. The junior improved to 3-0 in singles tiebreaks this season with her first-set breaker victories against North Carolina A&T and Davidson.
Reding leads the Phoenix with six victories this spring, all of which have come at the No. 3 position. This is Reding's second career CAA Player of the Week recognition, as she previously earned the honor on Jan. 28, 2025. She is the second Phoenix to receive a weekly award this spring after
Cornelia Kack took home Co-CAA Player of the Week on Feb. 17.
The Phoenix entered the ITA team rankings Tuesday, checking in at No. 58, the highest ever ranking for Elon as a Division I program. Elon is 6-2 on the season and is the only CAA team in the current ITA standings.
Reding and Elon return to action Sunday against South Carolina State at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center. First serve is slated for 1 p.m.
