WASHINGTON, D.C. – Elon saw its season come to an end Saturday night, falling to William & Mary, 72-62, in the second round of the 2026 Air Force Reserve CAA Men's Basketball Championship at CareFirst Arena.
Â
The 11th-seeded Phoenix finished the 2025-26 season with a 14-18 overall record. No. 6 seed William & Mary improved to 20-11 and advanced to the CAA Quarterfinals, where it will face No. 3 seed Hofstra at 8:30 p.m. ET Sunday.
Â
William & Mary was led by Tunde Vahlberg Fasasi, who scored a game-high 25 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including five 3-pointers. Reese Miller added 13 points while Chase Lowe contributed eight points and 10 rebounds for the Tribe.
Â
Elon had three players reach double figures, paced by
Ned Hull with 15 points on 4-of-8 shooting from 3-point range.
Chandler Cuthrell finished with 13 points and six rebounds, while
Randall Pettus II added 10 points for the Phoenix.
Â
William & Mary controlled much of the opening half, building a 13-point advantage midway through the period before Elon chipped away late. A three-pointer by Hull and a driving layup from
Kacper Klaczek helped the Phoenix close within two points, but the Tribe carried a 35-31 lead into halftime.
Â
Elon pulled within two early in the second half following a Klaczek fast-break layup that cut the deficit to 38-36. However, William & Mary answered with a key run behind Vahlberg Fasasi, who knocked down a pair of threes during a stretch that pushed the Tribe's lead back to eight.
Â
The Phoenix remained within striking distance for much of the half and trimmed the margin to three after a
Ja'Juan Carr 3-pointer and two free throws from Cuthrell made it 47-44 with just under 12 minutes remaining. William & Mary responded again with seven straight points and eventually stretched its lead back to double digits for good with 6:49 to play.
Â
Elon committed a season-high 19 turnovers while shooting 36.5% from the floor and 35.7% from 3-point range. The Tribe finished at 41.5% overall and converted 20-of-28 free throws. William & Mary also scored 29 points of Elon's 19 turnovers and held a 28-16 advantage in paint points.
