ELON – The Elon baseball team (14-22) fell to Winthrop (24-13) 13-3 Tuesday night.
Brian DuRoff continued his torrid pace in the month of April with a pair of doubles.
Gar Hindle paced the Phoenix with two RBI on Tuesday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After two clean innings from starter Cole Miller, the Eagles pulled ahead with a three-run third inning.
- Elon countered with a run in the bottom of the frame with an RBI single from Lawson Wheeler.
- Winthrop threw a knockout punch in the fourth inning with six runs to take a 9-1 lead.
- The Eagles expanded their lead with two more runs in the sixth.
- Hindle continued his recent run with a two-run double to make it an eight-run game.
- The Eagles closed out the night with a single run in the seventh and ninth innings to take the midweek matchup, 13-3.
QUICK HITS
- Brian DuRoff continued his fantastic start to April. DuRoff doubled twice on Tuesday to bring his April extra-base hit tally to eight. DuRoff is batting .438 (14-for-32) since the start of the month.
- Gar Hindle drove in multiple runs for the second straight game. Hindle doubled in the sixth inning to bring home two of Elon's three runs.
- Lawson Wheeler drove in a run in the loss.
- Kevin Denty doubled and scored a run against Winthrop.
- Hank Krift allowed two runs in 3.1 innings on the mound. Krift struck out three batters.
