Elon Draws Charlotte In NCAA Championship First Round

Phoenix Making Second Straight Trip To NCAA Tournament

ELON – For the second straight year, Elon is heading to the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championship where it will face Charlotte in the opening round in Athens, Georgia.

Elon is the Coastal Athletic Association's automatic qualifier after winning the 2026 CAA Tournament title, its second conference championship in a row. The Phoenix will make its third NCAA Tournament appearance as a Division I program (2014, 2025).

The Phoenix won a thrilling CAA title match over William & Mary, with Lisa Kranec clinching a 4-3 victory by coming through a third-set tiebreak at No. 5 singles at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center in Williamsburg, Virginia. Elon took the doubles point and got singles victories from Cornelia Kack and Mariana Reding to set up Kranec's clinching triumph.

Charlotte went 22-4 during the regular season and is currently ranked No. 33 in the ITA poll. The Phoenix and 49ers played on Jan. 16 at Lifetime Fitness in Charlotte, with the 49ers winning 7-0.

The winner of the Elon-Charlotte match will advance to face either No. 1 Georgia or Alabama in Athens. For more information on the 64-team field, visit NCAA.com.
