RICHMOND, Va. – Elon junior Alexis Nyborg was selected as the CAA Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Tuesday as the conference released its weekly tennis awards.Â
Â
Nyborg delivered the winning point for Elon in its CAA road victory at William & Mary on April 3, defeating Mira Kernagis 7-6 (5), 1-6, 7-6 (5) at the No. 4 spot for the fourth Phoenix point in a 4-3 win. Â
Â
After holding serve to take the match into a decisive tiebreak, Nyborg won four of the first five points to take early command of the breaker. Kernagis clawed her way back to trail 5-4 and then 6-5, but Nyborg closed out the victory on the next point to secure an Elon win. Â
Â
The victory was Nyborg's ninth of the spring and the first to come in a full third set. The junior bookended the match with tiebreak victories, improving to 4-1 on the campaign in singles tiebreaks. Â
Â
Nyborg is the third Phoenix to earn CAA Player of the Week this season, joining Cornelia Kack (Feb. 17) and Mariana Reding (March 3). This is Nyborg's first CAA weekly award.Â
Â
The Phoenix returns to action Wednesday at UNCG. First serve in Greensboro is scheduled for 3 p.m. Â
