Williamsburg, Va. – Elon baseball (18-27, 9-17) head coach
Mike Kennedy won his 900
th game on Saturday with a 5-2 victory over William & Mary (20-24, 11-12 CAA).
Tommy Mitchell earned his first career win with six innings of work on Saturday. Mitchell struck out a career-high seven hitters in the win.
Kehler Hamilton picked up his first career save with three innings of relief.
Jackson Alford,
Brian DuRoff and
Jared Hall all finished with multi-hit games. Hall finished with a multi-RBI game and his second triple of the season. Seven different Phoenix recorded a hit in the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- William & Mary jumped out in front in the first inning with an RBI single.
- Elon quickly answered with a run in the top of the first when Nate Sterling scored on a wild pitch.
- The Phoenix took the lead for good in the third inning with a pair of runs. A single from DuRoff capitalized on a leadoff double from Alford. Hall tripled home DuRoff from second to give Elon a 3-1 lead.
- Elon added again in the fourth when Jake Hajdu scored on another Tribe wild pitch.
- After Mitchell's final inning on the mound, Elon added another run. An RBI groundout from Hall scored DuRoff and gave Elon a four-run cushion.
- William & Mary added a solo home run in the ninth, but that would be it for the Tribe offense.
