Greenville, S.C. – The Elon baseball team (19-28) was upended by USC Upstate (23-25), 18-4 on Tuesday night in its return to Fluor Field.
Brian DuRoff recorded his 18
th multi-hit game of the season Tuesday. Six different Phoenix recorded a base hit in the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Elon drew first blood in the opening frame. A base hit to right field from Jared Hall drove in the game's first run.
- The Spartans responded with three runs in the bottom of the first.
- Upstate added a pair of runs in the second and third innings.
- The Phoenix cut into the deficit with a multi-run fourth inning. A Nate Sterling bunt and a pair of errors from the Spartans scored Elon's second run. With the bases loaded, DuRoff singled to drive in another run to cut the deficit to four.
- Upstate blew the game open in the fourth with 11 runs in the inning.
- Elon added a late-inning run to trim into the final deficit.
