ELON — Elon baseball head coach Mike Kennedy announced the hiring of Kenny Mallory Jr. as the program's director of player development Wednesday. Mallory returns to the Phoenix after spending three seasons (2023-25) with the program as an outfielder and first baseman.
 
"We are thrilled to have Kenny back as a part of our family," Kennedy said. "He did some good things here, no doubt about it. He was always in tune with what we were trying to do, and you could always tell that he had a great mind for the game. Any time we can have one of our own help us, we're all for that."
 
Before returning to Elon, Mallory spent time as an assistant coach at Peachtree Ridge High School in Suwanee, Georgia.
 
"I'm incredibly excited and grateful for the opportunity to return to Elon and begin my collegiate coaching career at a place that means so much to me," Mallory said. "Elon played such an important role in my development as a player and as a person, so being able to come back and be part of this program in a different capacity is truly special. I'm excited to learn, contribute and help continue building something special with this team."
 
During his three seasons with the Phoenix, Mallory appeared in 161 games and made 143 starts. A career .294 hitter, he finished his Elon career with 155 hits, 100 runs scored, 29 doubles and 28 stolen bases. Mallory also drew 102 walks during his career, which ranks eighth all-time in program history.
