ELON – The Elon men's soccer team (4-2-2) is back on the road Friday night for a matchup against Duke (4-5-0) at Koskinen Stadium in Durham. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Duke Series

• Elon and Duke will meet for the 23rd time Friday night. The Blue Devils lead the all-time series, 16-2-4.
• This will be the sixth straight season the Phoenix and Blue Devils face each other. Duke is 4-0-1 against Elon in the previous five seasons.
• Last season, Elon tied No. 7 Duke in a 1-1 result at Koskinen Stadium. Jahmir Flowers scored a goal in the 23rd minute to put the Phoenix ahead before the Blue Devils tied the match in the second half.
• Elon's last victory over Duke came on Oct. 15, 2019, when the Phoenix knocked off the Blue Devils, 3-2, at Rudd Field. Vemund Hole Vik scored the game winner for Elon in the 88th minute. 
• The Phoenix has never beaten Duke in Durham. However, Elon has been within a goal of the Blue Devils in five of its last seven trips to Koskinen.   

 
Elon Storylines

• CAA Praise: Elon was tabbed to finish first in the CAA South Division preseason poll. The Phoenix also had four preseason All-CAA honorees – Martin Kozak, Magnus Jacobsen, Weston Jonke and Dominik Renz. Additionally, Ben Madore was named a preseason All-CAA honorable mention. 
• Give Him His Flowers: Flowers has already set a career high in goals with four through Elon's first eight matches this season. The senior has scored in four of seven appearances and leads the Phoenix with nine points.
• Goalie Rotation: Elon has rotated goalies in the first eight matches of the season. Drew Hartman has started five matches, including all four of Elon's CAA contests. Mikolaj Lenarcik has made three starts, including posting his first career shutout in Elon's win against Radford. Lenarcik became the first Phoenix goalkeeper since 2015 to register an assist in the victory over the Highlanders.
• Oscar-Worthy Performances: Tonidandel has racked up five points in Elon's last four matches. The midfielder had a goal and assist against Campbell before adding assists last week against Radford and College of Charleston. Tonidandel's six points are the third most on the Phoenix this season.
• Dom-inating: Renz is second on the Phoenix in both points (8) and goals (3). The reigning CAA Rookie of the Year has netted a goal in each of Elon's last two conference matches. The forward has points in three of Elon's last four outings.
• Nonconference Success: Elon is 3-1-0 this season against nonconference opponents and has won back-to-back nonconference matches against Radford and Davidson.
• Iron Man Streak: Jacobsen has played all 720 minutes on Elon's back line this season, the only Phoenix to not be subbed off the field this season. The defender also has a goal and an assist on the campaign.
• Offensive Production: Elon has scored multiple goals in five of its eight matches this season, including in its most recent outing against Davidson. The Phoenix is tied for third among CAA teams in goals scored this season.  
• Captain Martin: Kozak has four points in six appearances this season. The reigning CAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player has a goal and a pair of assists on the campaign, highlighted by a three-point effort in Elon's season-opening victory against VMI. He was named to the Hermann Trophy Preseason Watch List last month.

 
Last Time Out

• Elon held on to defeat Davidson on Tuesday night, winning 2-1 at Alumni Soccer Stadium.
• Daire McCarthy and Diego Thompson scored their first Elon goals in the first half to put the Phoenix up 2-0. They became Elon's 10th and 11th different goal scorers on the season, respectively.
• Jonke assisted on McCarthy's goal as the junior midfielder has already surpassed his point total from last season with four in Elon's first eight matches this season.
• Mohamed Kallon was credited with an assist on Thompson's goal. It was his second assist of the season and first since Aug. 24 at Old Dominion.
• Elon weathered a strong second half push from Davidson, who scored in the 49th minute to draw within a goal.
• Lenarcik came up with five second-half saves to preserve an Elon victory. It was Lenarcik's second straight win in goal.
• The win was Elon's second on the road this season, as the Phoenix has now won each of its last two fixtures away from home.

 
Reigning Champs

• Elon earned its first CAA Tournament crown last fall, winning the title on its home field.
• The Phoenix finished atop the CAA South Division in the regular season to receive a bye into the semifinal round of the conference tournament.
• In its semifinal match against Campbell, the Phoenix exploded for six goals in a 6-4 victory, the most goals for Elon in a match since 2018. Six different Phoenix converted a goal in the match.
• Elon netted three more goals in the championship match against Stony Brook at Rudd, blanking the Seawolves 3-0 to secure the title and an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.
• Kozak paced the Phoenix with eight points in the CAA Tournament, netting two goals and adding four assists to earn Most Outstanding Player honors.
• The Phoenix made its sixth appearance in the NCAA Tournament, going out to UNCG in penalty kicks after the teams played to a scoreless draw in Greensboro.

 
Scouting Duke

• Duke enters Friday with a 4-5-0 record. The Blue Devils defeated Howard on Tuesday, 4-1, in their most recent outing.
• The Blue Devils are 0-3 in ACC play with all three defeats coming by multiple goals.
• Duke has conceded 23 goals this season, 10 more than any other team in the ACC. The Blue Devils are one of two ACC teams with a negative goal differential.
• Jack Ottley leads Duke with 10 points, followed closely by Ulfur Bjornsson (9), Ethan Congleton (8) and Ari Racaj (7). Those four Blue Devils have all scored a team-best three goals on the season, with Ottley's four assists pacing the team.
• Duke has started three different goalkeepers this season – Max Delsenhofer, Colin Gallagher and Nathan Gaviser. Delsenhofer started Duke's first five matches, with Gallagher getting the nod in the last three contests.
• Duke is led by head coach John Kerr, who is in his 19th season leading the program.
