2012: Started two of the 11 games in which he appeared… Tallied 35 total tackles… Made 7.0 tackles for a loss, including one sack… Finished with a personal-best nine stops against North Carolina… Notched seven total tackles, including one tackle for a loss, against Samford.

2011: Appeared in six games as a true freshman… Had 19 total tackles, 3.0 tackles for a loss and one sack… Forced one fumble… Made eight total stops in his collegiate debut against Concord… Blocked two punts in a league win at Western Carolina… Also blocked a punt at Samford.

Prep: Set a school single-season record for tackles for loss during his senior campaign during which he also led the team in sacks… Earned one defensive player of the week award from The State newspaper following a contest against Burns High… Helped lead coach Tom Knotts’ Dutch Fork program to the 2010 region crown.

Personal: Son of Gary and Pamela Coates and the nephew of former NFL tight end Ben Coates… Born November 27, 1992…  Majoring in sport and event management.
