2013: Collected the team’s Most Outstanding Linebacker Award… Started all 12 contests… Led the squad with 84 total tackles… Posted 3.5 stops for a loss, including one sack… Intercepted one pass and broke up two others… Had three games of 10 or more total tackles… Made a season-high 12 tackles against Georgia Southern… Posted 10 stops and intercepted a pass vs. No. 11 Coastal Carolina… Added 11 tackles against The Citadel… Concluded the year ranked sixth on the program’s FCS career tackles chart with 241 stops.

2012: Started all 11 games… Earned second-team All-Southern Conference accolades from the media… Led the team and ranked third in the SoCon with 120 total tackles, the fourth-highest single-season total in the program’s Division I history… Ranked 12th nationally with 10.91 tackles per game… Finished with 5.5 tackles for a loss, including 2.5 sacks… Posted two quarterback hurries… Became the first Elon player since 2006 to have a 20-tackle game as he made 20 total stops against Samford… Added 16 takedowns at No. 10 Georgia Southern… Posted 10 or more tackles in each of the final eight games of the season.

2011: Appeared in all 11 contests, garnering five starting assignments… Collected Freshman All-America Honors from College Sports Journal… Named to the SoCon All-Freshman Team… Amassed 37 total tackles, including 21 solo stops… Finished with 4.5 tackles for a loss and one sack… Broke up one pass, intercepted another and forced one fumble… Made a personal-best nine total tackles againt both Samford and Chattanooga… In his first career start, tallied six tackles and intercepted the first pass of his career in a win over Western Carolina.

2010: Red-shirted.

Prep: Participated in the 2009 Shrine Bowl… Collected all-area and all-conference honors in both 2008 and 2009… Named team defensive MVP… Helped coach Kevin Gillespie’s squad to a 9-3 finish in 2009 and state playoff appearances in 2008 and 2009… Team captain… Earned 2009 Carolina Preps All-State distinction… Was an all-tournament honoree at the 2010 Pizza Hut Invite basketball tournament as a member of Page’s program.

Personal: Son of former Iowa State quarterback Steven and Beth Spain… Born July 19, 1991… Majoring in entrepreneurship.
