ELON COLLEGE, NC -- Senior forward Mike Thomas scored a career-high 22 points in his final home game, and freshman Andrew Toole tied a career-high with 25 points, as Elon College (11-15) tallied a 93-81 win over Charleston Southern (11-14) on Wednesday night at Alumni Gym.
Elon took a 24-15 lead in the game before the Buccaneers went on a9-0 run over a 2:14 span to tie the game at 24-24 with 7:01 remaining in the first half. Thomas and Toole then scored nine of Elon's final 15 points of the first half, as the Fightin' Christians led 39-36 at halftime.
Charleston Southern pulled within 56-50 on a Nick Mitchell layup with 11:21 to go in the game, but the Bucs would get no closer. Elon, which was 34-of-44 at the free throw line, made 18 of its 24 attempts from the line in the final 10:41 of the game to secure the win. The Buccaneers were unable to get any closer than eight points during that span.
Thomas, who started his 100th career game this evening, also posted a career-best six steals in the game. Toole was 3-of-6 from three-point range en route to tying his career-high of 25 points.
Charleston Southern was led by 21 points from Adam Larrick, who now has 1,012 career points, while Andres Amaya scored 17 and Ivica Perica scored a career-high 16 for the Bucs.
