ATLANTA -- The Elon College softball team dropped a pair of one-run setbacks at the Georgia Tech Round Robin Tournament, held at Glenn Field Saturday. The Fightin' Christians (2-4) lost the opener to Eastern Kentucky, 5-4 and later dropped a 4-3 eight-inning decision to the host Yellow Jackets.
In the EKU game, the Colonels broke a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the fourth inning when Jill MacDonald drove in Laura Pullin with an RBI double.
EKU plated took an 4-0 lead in the bottom of the third, but the Fightin' Christians responded with a four-run frame in the top of the fourth, paced by a pair of RBI doubles by Holly Briel and Jessica Vanderploeg.
EKU hurler Kerri Duncan improved her mark to 2-2, while Gina Krueger (1-1) suffered her first loss of the season in relief.
Against host Georgia Tech, the Yellow Jackets' Anne Knobbe hit an RBI-single to score Jamie Frost in the bottom of the eighth for the victory.
Elon rallied from a two run deficit in the seventh inning on Jen Warren's RBI single to drive in Evie Benson with the equalizer.
Besides scoring the winning run, Frost connected on a pair of home runs and tallied three RBI.
The Fightin' Christians have lost three games in a row for the first time since 1997 when Elon dropped three consecutive contests from Mar. 22-24 (a DH loss to Carson-Newman and a 10-inning marathon at North Florida). Elon will close out the round robin tournament on Sunday when they battle Pittsburgh at 11:00 a.m. at Glenn Field.
