ELON COLLEGE, NC--Winthrop University's #2 doubles team of Judit Trunkos/Jacki Deason won the deciding match Friday afternoon, defeating Elon's Jenny Thigpen/Julianne Treme by an 8-6 score, as Winthrop took a 5-4 women's tennis victory over Elon.

The teams split the six singles matches, with Elon winning a pair of three set matches at #1 (Sarah Benhaim def. Ana Rojas, 2-6, 7-6, 6-4) and at #5 (Sarah Collins def. Liisi Vesantera, 6-3, 5-7, 6-1). Winthrop also won a three-set singles match at #6, with Deason defeating Elon's Laura Knutson, 6-1, 6-7, 6-1.

Elon, which falls to 16-3 on the year, will host High Point University on Thursday afternoon in an exhibition match which will be part of the Big South Conference Championships, being played next Thursday through Saturday at Elon.
