ELON COLLEGE, NC -- Kelly Gray scored a pair of second-half goals as East Carolina overcame Elon 4-2 at Rudd Field on Tuesday. Her first goal, at the 75:53 mark, broke a 2-2 deadlock.
The Pirates (2-1) took an early 1-0 advantage on an unassisted goal by Kim Sandhoff only 1:39 into the contest. Elon (0-4) evened the count with an unassisted goal by Kate Schabo at the 14:18 mark.
East Carolina regained the lead with a goal by Emily Cozzi late in the first half. Sandhoff registered her first of three consecutive assists on the score. Elon's Erin Morse sank the game-tying goal two minutes later thanks to a Christy Polansky assist.
Elon outshot the Pirates 18-11 in the loss. The Phoenix will travel to UNC Wilmington for a 2 p.m. contest on Sunday.
