Elon Hosts UNCW, Travels To Campbell

ELON – The Elon University women's soccer team (6-2-3, 0-2-1 CAA) will play a pair of CAA South opponents this week, with a Thursday matchup at Rudd Field against UNCW (7-3-1, 3-0-0 CAA) before a Sunday road trip to Campbell (3-4-3, 1-1-1 CAA).

Soccer Scarf Night
  • Thursday will be Elon's annual Soccer Scarf giveaway. The first 100 students at Rudd will receive a free Elon soccer scarf. 

The
UNCW Series 
  • The Seahawks lead the all-time series against Elon, 15-3-3. 
  • The Phoenix and Seahawks have split the last seven meetings, 3-3-1.  
  • Elon defeated UNCW, 2-1, in the lone meeting between the teams last season in Wilmington. The Seahawks scored first but Ashlee Brehio and Lauren McCauley answered with goals to put the Phoenix in front.  
  • Elon is 1-6-2 in its nine previous home matches versus the Seahawks. The lone victory at Rudd for Elon came in 2019.
  • UNCW holds a 6-2-1 advantage in the series since Elon joined the CAA.  
 
The Campbell Series 
  • Elon is 7-4-1 all-time against Campbell, which includes a 2-2-1 mark in Buies Creek.
  • The Camels defeated the Phoenix last season at Rudd, 1-0. Campbell is 2-0-1 in the last three meetings between the teams.  
  • Elon secured a dramatic 1-1 tie with time expiring in its most recent trip to Buies Creek on Oct. 19, 2023. McCauley scored the tying goal with just three seconds remaining.  
  • This will be the third meeting between Elon and Campbell as CAA opponents. Prior to their first conference matchup in 2023, the teams had not played since 2012.  
 
Last Time Out 
  • Elon fell 2-1 at William & Mary on Saturday to close out an opening three-match road slate in CAA play.    
  • Isa Murdock scored the first goal of the match in the 28th minute off assists from Brehio and freshman Miranda Dumornay.  
  • The Tribe evened the score with a goal in the 51st minute. Ivey Crain converted after a shot from Ellie Leffler ricocheted off the post and onto the foot of Crain.  
  • Katie Bisgrove made several crucial stops in the second half, including a diving stop in the 77th minute that she kept out with her fingertips.  
  • The Tribe took its first lead of the day in the 79th minute with a Sheridan Brummett tally. William & Mary hung on from there for the one-goal win.  
  • Brehio took four of Elon's eight shot attempts on the day. Three of the shots were on target.   
  • The secondary assist on Murdock's goal was the first point of Dumornay's career. The freshman has made three straight starts and played 50-plus minutes in consecutive outings. 
  • Bisgrove set a career high with nine saves. It was her third start this season with seven or more stops.
  • Grace Gelhaus and Alexis Pierce both played the full 90 minutes for the Phoenix. 
  • The Tribe outshot the Phoenix, 19-8, and finished the match with an 11-5 advantage in shots on goal. 
 
Historic Shutout Streak
  • Elon set a new program record earlier this season with seven consecutive clean sheets, surpassing the previous record of six that was set in 1986, Elon's inaugural season.   
  • Elon went just over 716 minutes of game time without conceding a goal, a stretch that began in the second half at VCU on Aug. 14 and ended in the second half on Sept. 18 versus Hofstra. The Phoenix was just shy of 12 hours without allowing a goal before the Pride ended the streak.  
  • Bisgrove started six of the shutout efforts in goal for the Phoenix. She is the first Elon goalie in program history to record a shutout in six consecutive games.  
  • Anna Hamner and Naomi Person combined for Elon's seventh shutout against South Carolina State.  
  • Bisgrove was the first goalkeeper in the country to reach six shutouts this season. She currently ranks in the top 15 for most shutouts in the nation.   
  • Bisgrove's six straight clean sheets were the most by a CAA women's soccer student-athlete since Hofstra's Krystal Robens posted seven in a row in 2007. 
  • With her six clean sheets this season, Bisgrove is up to 11.5 in her career, which is already the ninth most in program history through her 27 appearances.  
  • The Phoenix is top 15 nationally as a team in shutout percentage (.667).  
  • The Phoenix leads the CAA and ranks top 15 in the nation in goals against average (.550). Elon's .902 save percentage is also the best in the conference and No. 9 nationally.  
  • Bisgrove ranks in the top 25 among NCAA goalkeepers in save percentage (.882) and goals against average (.600).  
  • Elon currently holds a plus-15 goal differential, the best in the CAA.  
  • Jessica Hill has anchored Elon's backline this season, playing 962 of a possible 990 minutes. She has logged the full 90 minutes on nine occasions this season.  
  • Pierce and Megan Dwyer have also been key contributors on Elon's backline this season. Pierce is second among Elon position players with 873 minutes played this season, with Dwyer having logged 713 minutes.  
 
Murdock's Hot Start  
  • Murdock leads the Phoenix with 12 points, with four goals and four assists on the campaign.  
  • The redshirt junior's four goals are tied with Gabby Hoschek for the most on the Phoenix. Her 28 shot attempts and 15 shots on goal lead the team.  
  • Murdock also leads the team with four assists on the campaign. She has registered a goal or assist in seven of 11 appearances.  
  • Murdock scored in two of Elon's first three games this season against VCU and Gardner-Webb. She tallied her third goal of the campaign on Sept. 10 against South Carolina State and delivered her fourth on Saturday at William & Mary.  
  • Murdock is up to 12 career goals, as she is one of three current Elon players, along with Brehio and Hoschek, with double-digit career goals as a Phoenix.    
 
The Great Gabby 
  • Hoschek, a preseason All-CAA honorable mention, is off to a strong start in 2025, as she is tied with Murdock for the team lead in goals (4) and is second on the team with 10 points.  
  • In Elon's CAA opener at Hofstra on Sept. 18, Hoschek scored the tying goal directly off a deep free kick with exactly one minute remaining to secure a result for the Phoenix. It was her third goal this season to come directly off a free kick.   
  • The junior delivered her second career brace on Sept. 10 against South Carolina State, as she scored two of Elon's first three goals in a 6-0 victory.  
  • On Aug. 28 at Queens, Hoschek connected on a free kick for her first goal of the campaign, ricocheting the ball off the left post and past the Royals' goalkeeper. 
  • In the second half versus the Royals, Hoschek delivered the secondary assist on Hellner's header goal. It was the junior's second time recording a goal and assist in the same contest, with the other coming at Wofford on Sept. 2, 2024.  
  • Hoschek also tallied an assist in Elon's victory over VMI on Aug. 17, helping on the first of two Gelhaus goals.  
  • Hoschek has started eight of 11 games for Elon this season, logging 793 minutes.  
 
GG   
  • Gelhaus, a preseason All-CAA selection, is tied for third on the team with eight points this season. It took her just nine matches to surpass her season total of seven points from a season ago.  
  • Gelhaus assisted on Elon's first CAA goal last week at Hofstra, getting the ball to Brehio who connected on the game's first shot just 63 seconds into the contest.  
  • The junior scored two goals in a 21-second span in Elon's 4-0 victory over VMI on Aug. 17. She also assisted on Murdock's game-winning tally against Gardner-Webb on Aug. 24  
  • Gelhaus found her third goal of the season on Sept. 10 against South Carolina State. She is one goal away from matching her career high of four, which she set in 2023.  
  • Gelhaus is fifth on the team with 12 shots, half of which have been on target. She has logged the fourth most minutes by Phoenix position players this season (830).   
 
Shlee Scoring 
  • Brehio has heated up over the last five games, accounting for points in four of them.  
  • The midfielder netted the first goal of her senior campaign on Sept. 7 at George Mason, her first two points since tallying two assists versus VMI on Aug. 17.  
  • Brehio added an assist in Elon's next game against South Carolina State before tallying her second goal in the CAA opener at Hofstra. She then assisted on Murdock's goal at William & Mary on Saturday.  
  • Brehio is now tied for third on the team with eight points, six of which have come in Elon's last five contests.  
  • Brehio has is averaging 3.8 shots attempts in Elon's last four outings after attempting just 1.7 in the first eight matches this season. She has led the Phoenix in both shot attempts and shots on goal in the last two matches.  
Balanced Attack  
  • Through the first 11 games this season, Elon has had nine different scorers for its 21 goals. 
  • Murdock and Hoschek lead the Phoenix with four goals, with Gelhaus and Hellner close behind with three apiece.  
  • Two Elon players have converted their first career goals this season. Freshman Abby Brinker scored in the second half of the VMI win, with junior Jenna Abousaab finding her first career tally in the victory at Queens.  
  • Jess Beck delivered the game-winning goal for Elon on Aug. 31 against High Point. She added her second of the season against South Carolina State on Sept. 10 
  • Brehio (2) and McCauley (1) are the other two goal scorers this season for the Phoenix.  
  • Additionally, 16 Elon players have recorded points on the campaign, with Jordan Green (2), Gia Milano (2), Brinker (1), Dumornay (1), Hill (1), Talia Feigin (1), Maya Abousaab (1), Lilly McFadden (1) and Dwyer (1) all recording assists.  
New Look CAA Soccer  
  • Starting in 2025, the CAA will feature two divisions for women's soccer – a North and South Division.   
  • Elon is part of the South Division alongside Campbell, College of Charleston, Hampton, UNCW and William & Mary.   
  • The Phoenix will face all five South Division teams in the regular season along with four teams from the North Division.   
  • At the end of the regular season, the top three teams from each division will qualify for the CAA Championship. The top seed in each division will receive a by to the semifinals while the Nos. 2 and 3 seeds in both the North and South will clash in the quarterfinals.   
Scouting UNCW 
  • UNCW enters Thursday's contest atop the CAA South standings with nine points after starting its conference schedule 3-0-0.  
  • The Seahawks held off College of Charleston on Sunday to stay unbeaten in conference play. UNCW scored three first-half goals and held off a Charleston rally in the second half for a 3-2 win.  
  • UNCW kicked off CAA play with a pair of victories against CAA North opponents. The Seahawks defeated both Northeastern and Monmouth in 1-0 results.  
  • The Seahawks have won five of their last six outings, with the lone loss coming to Western Carolina on Sept. 12.  
  • UNCW has surrendered the third fewest goals in the CAA this season (11), trailing just Drexel (9) and Elon (6).  
  • Goalkeeper Morgan Hobbs ranks third in the conference in both goals against average (1.02) and save percentage (.763). She took home CAA Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 22 after shutting out both Northeastern and Monmouth.  
  • Ayanna Parker and Allie Planeaux lead the Seahawks with three goals apiece. Parker is also pacing UNCW with eight points on the season.  
  • Parker leads UNCW with two assists along with Hailey Longwell and Kayla Adams.  
  • UNCW is led by eighth-year head coach Chris Neal, who picked up his 150th career victory against the Cougars on Sunday. It was his 60th victory at UNCW after he logged 90 wins at Elon from 2008-17.  
 
Scouting Campbell 
  • The Camels are currently alone in fourth place in the CAA South standings with four points following a 1-1-1 start to conference play. 
  • Campbell will face William & Mary in Buies Creek on Thursday prior to taking on Elon.  
  • Campbell picked up its first CAA victory on Sunday, blanking Hampton, 2-0. The Camels started their conference schedule going 0-1-1 on the road against CAA North opponents Hofstra and Stony Brook.  
  • The Camels have scored just 10 goals this season, the third fewest among CAA teams.  
  • Eight different players have scored a goal for Campbell this season, led by Zahra Fepessi (2) and Gillian Garrison (2).  
  • Abby Connelly leads the Camels with six points on the season. She is tied for fourth in the conference in assists.  
  • Anaia van Doesburg has made nine starts in goal for the Camels this season, making 30 saves. She holds a .714 save percentage and a 1.44 goals against average.  
  • Jeff Gross is in his fourth season as Campbell's head coach.
