ELON, NC -- Elon University baseball coach Mike Kennedy announced the signings of Thomas Hill, Jr. (Emerson, NJ/Emerson HS), Matt Link (Marietta, GA/Lassiter HS) and Christopher Norwood (Greensboro, NC/Southwest Guilford HS) to National Letters of Intent on Tuesday afternoon.
Hill, a 5-11, 200-pound catcher, earned New Jersey Rookie of the Year honors, hitting 12 home runs, while playing for coach Bob Carcich's Emerson High School team. He has received All-League honors three times and All-Suburban recognition twice as well as being named All-County and All-State during his junior year last spring. The team captain helped lead Emerson team to two consecutive state championships, three league crowns and two section titles. Hill was rated as the number 19 high school prospect coming out of the state of New Jersey by Baseball America's Prospects Plus Thomas is the son of Tom and Ann Hill.
Link, a 5-11, 180-pound outfielder, was the recipient of the 2002 Lassiter High School Gold Glove Award while playing for coach Mickey McMurtry. Link helped lead the Trojans to an appearance in the 2002 Georgia 5A State Championship. Link was a member of the 2001 16U AAU National Champion East Cobb Astros and was selected to attend Team One South, Perfect Game and Impact Baseball Showcases. Matt is the son of Richard and Roseanne Link.
Norwood, a 5-11, 180-pound shortstop, has been a three-year varsity starter/letterman for coach Reid Holmes' Southwest Guildford High School team, helping the program to a 55-25 record with three conference titles in as many years. Link was recognized as All-Conference his sophomore and junior years, while also being selected to the Region Five State Games both years. In addition to being named team MVP his junior year, he also finished as runner-up for Conference Player of the Year honors. Norwood has 88 career hits and 73 career runs. He posted a school record .493 single-season batting average. Christopher is the son of Phillip and Pamela Norwood.
