ROCK HILL, SC -- The Winthrop Eagles defeated Elon 5-2 in men's tennis action Sunday afternoon, dropping the Phoenix to 5-3 overall and 0-1 in the Big South on the season.

The Phoenix took two wins in singles competition, with Nathan Lefevre winning 7-6, 6-2 at the second position and Mikael Houlst the victor at number five by the score of 5-7, 6-2, 7-6 (13-11). Pramote Malasitt (1-6, 1-6), Justin Roberson (6-7, 2-6), Richard Dutton (2-6, 0-6) and Mike Prelec (0-6, 2-6) all suffered defeats for Elon.

Elon's team of Malasitt and Dutton took one doubles match, winning 8-2. Lefevre/Holst fell 0-8 and Roberson/Nick Belutty were downed 5-8 at the final doubles match.

The Phoenix will travel to UNC Wilmington on Wednesday for a 2:30 p.m. match.
