ELON, NC -- Wingate claimed five singles flights and two doubles bouts on its way to a 6-1 non-league women's tennis road win against Elon Monday afternoon at Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
The Phoenix (5-9) dropped its second-straight match after winning three in a row. Molly Cade (6-1) claimed Elon's lone singles victory when she beat Morgan Oehmann 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5. The No. 3 Phoenix doubles team of Diana Pulupa and Jessica Fisher (6-0) remained perfect by holding off Oehmann and Lauren Whan 8-5.
The Bulldogs (11-5) received singles wins from Katy Judah (7-6, 5-7, 6-3 over Jennifer Fulmer at No. 1), Allison Abell (6-4, 6-2 against Pulupa at No. 2), Jenna Calomeris (2-6, 6-1, 7-5 versus Aubrey Rhoads at No. 3), Brooke Hoeltzel (3-6, 6-2, 6-1 past Lindsey Kinnaird at No. 4) and Whan (6-2, 1-6, 6-1 vs. Jessica Fisher at No. 6).
Wingate earned the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 2. Judah and Abell blanked Fulmer and Cade 8-0 at No. 1 while Calomeris and Hoeltzel edged Rhoads and Kinnaird 8-6 at No. 2.
Elon returns to action Tuesday afternoon when both the men's and women's squads host Campbell at 2:30 p.m. at Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
