High Point Women's Tennis Defeats Phoenix

ELON, NC--The Elon women's tennis team was defeated by Big South Conference rival High Point this afternoon 2-5.

In doubles action, the Phoenix (0-2, 0-1 BSC) earned two wins at the one and three spots. Kelly Fleck andJenniefer Fulmer posted an 8-2 victory over Simona Foltyn and Emma Nordin. In the number two spot, High Points' Annika Meyerson and Patricia D'Arcy got past Aubrey Rhoads and Cassie Martin 8-4. In the final slot, Elizabeth Kernodle and Melissa Holland defeated Jenny Rabanal and Anna Stridh 8-4.

The Phoenix were able to get wins in singles action at the number one and three spots. High Point (4-2, 1-0 BSC) grabbed the four remaining spots to clinch their conference victory. In the number one, Fleck defeated Foltyn 6-1, 5-7, 6-4, while the Panthers' Meyerson posted a 6-3, 6-4 mark to defeat Elon's Fulmer. Kernodle continued her success in singles action as she defeated Rabanal 6-2, 7-5 , to remain undefeated in singles play on the 2003 spring season. High Point's Stridh was able to get by Rhoads 6-3, 6-4 at number four. The Panthers continued their success as D'Arcy earned the victory at number five 6-3, 6-2, over Holland and Nordin defeated Martin 6-3, 6-4 at the six spot.

Elon women's tennis travels to South Carolina on Feb. 27 to take on College of Charleston at 12:45 p.m.
