BUIES CREEK, NC--The Elon men's tennis team won two of three doubles matches to earn the doubles point and captured four singles matches to defeat Campbell, 5-2, in Elon's final game of the regular-season a the Nisbet Tennis Center on Monday.
Campbell's (11-5) Martin Parkes and Sergio Tejada, who are ranked number-60 in this week's Omni Hotels Men's Division I doubles rating, won 9-8 at No.3 doubles, defeating Thomas Rohof and Justin Roberson. Elon took the doubles point with wins at No.1 and No.2.
Pramote Malasitt and Richard Dutton extended their success as a pair this season by earning their 13th win Monday over Sasa Ljumic and Florent Wilpotte, 8-3. Taking home their 12th victory this season, Nathan Lefevre and Mikael Houlst got past Jiri Beranek and Ryan Mills, 8-4.
Elon (14-3, 4-2 Big South) secured the match with four wins in singles action. Malasitt defeated Ljumic, 6-2, 6-2 at No.1, while Campbell's Beranek battled past Lefevre at No.2, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. At No.3, Rohof was victorious over Mills, 6-4, 6-2. Wilpotte walked away with the Camels second and final win in singles play by fighting past Houlst in three sets, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1. Roberson 's No. 5 match went to three sets before Zorick Toltsan retired due to injury (3-6, 6-4, 4-3). Dutton claimed the win at No.6 with another three-set thriller over Carlos Campo, 1-6, 6-4, 6-2.
NEXT UP: The team plays in their final Big South Conference Tournament beginning Thursday, March 17 at the Powell Tennis Center.
