ELON, NC – Kristen Albert and Kate Schabo each scored goals as Elon recorded its first victory of the season – a 2-0 triumph over High Point – in non-conference women’s soccer action Sunday afternoon at Rudd Field.
Albert snapped a scoreless tie early in the second half, sinking a goal at the 46:29 mark off of a pass from Erin Gaeng. Schabo (pictured below) provided an insurance goal when she found the net at 69:29, thanks to an assist from Lacey Whitmer.
The Phoenix (1-5) improved to 10-0-1 all-time against the Panthers (1-3) despite being out-shot 18-8, including 12-5 in the second period. High Point took six shots on goal while Elon was only able to get three off, but made two count.
Panther reserve Tanya Wolf fired a game-high two shots on goal. Phoenix goaltender Kara Zagol snared six saves while logging her eighth career shutout victory.
Elon heads to Appalachian State for a Southern Conference match-up at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Western Kentucky hosts High Point at 8 p.m. Friday.
