Golden Flashes Drop Phoenix

KENT, OH -- Uma Ramadorai's goal in the 77th minute provided the difference as the Kent State Golden Flashes (2-1-1) knocked off Elon (0-4-0) to claim the 2003 Kent State Soccer Tournament championship on Saturday in women's soccer action.

Ramadorai redirected Kacy McMillan's cross from the right side with a sliding shot inside the left post to give Kent State a 2-0 lead. Elon answered just under two minutes later as Kate Schabo scored off a corner kick to cut the lead in half. It was Schabo's first goal of the season. The Golden Flashes would hang on despite heavy pressure from the Phoenix in the closing minutes.

The Golden Flashes opened the game's scoring in the 40th minute when Wendy Gamble banged home a cross from Ashley Bohine, who delivered the ball from the endline.

Kent State controlled much of the play through the first 75 minutes, outshooting Elon 24-8 in the contest.

Alicia Fernandez went the distance in net for Kent State, making one save. Kara Zagol and Jessica Geguzis split the 90 minutes in goal for the Phoenix. Zagol recorded seven saves and Geguzis five saves.

Elon returns to the field on September 12 when it hosts Western Carolina in its first-ever Southern Conference game. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
