COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Elon's Pramotte Malasitt and Austin Fenn teamed up to win the A-2 doubles flight at the USC Fall Invitational held this weekend. The flight consisted of teams from schools such as North Carolina, UNC Greensboro, East Carolina and Virginia Tech.
In their opening match, Malasitt and Fenn defeated Wofford's Brett Johnson and Andrew Stubbs 8-3. In the quarterfinals, the pair knocked off the bracket's top seed, Benjamin Carlotti and Aly Madour of North Carolina by an 8-4 score. The semifinals saw the Elon partners down Charleston Southern's Quentin Guichard and Lee Schutte 9-7. In Sunday's final, Malasitt and Fenn claimed an 8-5 victory over UNC Asheville's Paul Amborse and Julien Vuilliez.
In other action, Malasitt won two singles matches in the A-2 flight, defeating Michael Reynolds (College of Charleston) 6-4, 6-4 and Daniel Van den Heever (Georgia Southern) 6-3, 7-6 before falling 5-7, 2-6 to Florent Wilpotte (Campbell) in the quarterfinals. In that same flight, Fenn claimed an opening round 6-1, 6-0 decision over East Carolina's Darren Mansell before dropping a 4-6, 2-6 match to Fernando Fluri (East Tennessee State).
In the A-B singles flight, Elon's Brian Edmundson lost his opening round match to Virginia Tech's Adel Abbas 3-6, 0-6. Edmundson then dropped his consolation match to Adam Branks (UNC Asheville) 3-6, 2-6.
In B-1 singles, Sebastian Bredberg earned a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Ignasi Roca (Virginia Tech) before falling 6-7, 3-6 in the Round of 16 to Frederico Ochoa (East Tennessee State).
Kyle Smialek dropped his first match in the B-2 singles flight 5-7, 1-6 to Lander's Akshay Chellappa before before winning his first consolation match 6-1, 2-6, 1-0(7) over Andrew Coney. Following a bye in the second round, Smialek fell to Babar Akbar (Charleston Southern) 0-6, 1-6.
In B-3 singles, Alex Garret fell in his opening match to Roshun Razik (Francis Marion) before claiming a win in the consolation bracket. In that same flight, John Garnett received a first round bye and then defeated Guy Dooley of Presbyterian 6-0, 6-2 before falling 3-6, 2-6 to Fandhi Irawan (South Carolina State).
Garnett and Garrett teamed up in B-1 doubles, dropping their opening tilt to David Lara and Ananda Sawrnywaden of The Citadel 0-8.
In A-B doubles Smialek and Edmundson fell 5-8to Campbells Carlos Campo and Marc Sifre in their first match.
