SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Elon junior women’s soccer player Gillian Murray has been named the SoCon TIAA-CREF Student-Athlete of the Week for October 27.
A junior midfielder from Cranford, N.J., Murray led the Phoenix to two conference wins last week. She had an assist in Elon’s 6-1 win over The Citadel on October 21 and knocked in the game-wining goal in a 1-0 win over Chattanooga on October 24. Murray is a business administration major and carries a 3.95 GPA. She was a member of the 2003-04 Southern Conference Honor Roll and has been named to Elon’s President’s List on four occasions.
Other oustanding performers from last week include Appalachian State’s Amber Mangrum, Davidson’s Joey Bass, UNCG’s Deven Beachum and Wofford’s Derek Newberry.
