ELON, N.C. – Elon University Athletics and men’s basketball head coach Ernie Nestor today announced the 2004-05 slate. The Phoenix will play in one tournament as well as hosting four non-conference foes and traveling to six other non-conference match-ups.
Elon begins the season in the BCA Invitational at the RBC Center in Raleigh, N.C. Other teams in the tournament are East Carolina State, Fairleigh Dickinson, New Orleans, North Carolina State, Oregon State, Pepperdine and Siena.
In other non-conference action, Elon travels to Fairfield, Richmond, Wake Forest, Boise State and UNC Wilmington while hosting Greensboro College, Buffalo and Bluefield. The Phoenix will also play a home-and-home series with Weber State.
Southern Conference play begins on January 5 at College of Charleston for the Phoenix. Elon’s first league action in the Nest is January 8 against Davidson in a 7:00 p.m. game.
In conference action, Elon will play home-and-home with North Division opponents Appalachian State, Chattanooga, East Tennessee State, UNC Greensboro and Western Carolina. The Phoenix will travel to South Division members The Citadel, College of Charleston, Furman and host Davidson, Georgia Southern and Wofford. The Southern Conference Tournament will be held at Chattanooga on March 2-5.
“This is a challenging and demanding schedule for our team,” said Nestor. “We have a tough non-conference schedule that will help us prepare for the rigor of the conference schedule. We are going to have to work hard to get ready for the quality of opponent we are going to face.”
