SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- After being tied at halftime, the Wofford women's soccer team came out and scored two second half goals to earn a 3-1 home victory over Elon in Southern Conference action Sunday afternoon.
The Terriers (5-2-0, 1-1-0) struck first when junior Mallory Bramlett dribbled through the Phoenix (1-7-0, 0-2-0) defense and fired a shot which nicked the underside of the crossbar at 4:35. Elon tied the contest later in the half, at 19:29, when Gillian Murray headed a cross past Wofford keeper Austin Somers. Monica Houseworth and Emily Chesney assisted on the goal.
Just over a minute in the second session, at 46:18, senior Eve Van Harpen knocked home a pass from sophomore Jessica Connett to give the Terriers a lead that they would not relinquish.
Sophomore Bernie Sikes closed the scoring at 85:35 off an assist from freshman Natalie Ferrara.
Somers collected five saves in net for Wofford. In 87:29, Kara Zogol posted a pair of saves before being relieved by Amy Cahill. Cahill notched one save in her 2:31 of playing time.
Wofford will play its final non-conference match of the season Tuesday when it hosts Winthrop at 7:00 p.m. at Snyder Field. The Phoenix heads to SoCon foe Western Carolina on October 1 for a 7:00 p.m. showdown with the Catamounts.
