Phoenix Tracksters Compete at North Carolina Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Elon women's indoor track squad came away from the powerful North Carolina Invitational Saturday with several solid individual performances at the Eddie Smith Field House.

Top Phoenix showings include Alice Turner's program-record finish in the 400-meter dash. She was clocked at 1:01.55, sprinting past the previous milestone of 1:03.39 set by teammate Rochelle Reid two weeks ago.

Turner's time was good enough for a 19th-place finish in the strong 46-competitor field that featured a plethora of Atlantic Coast Conference and unattached athletes as did all of the meet's events. Jessica Hayden completed the 400-meter dash in 1:04.57, finishing 38th.

Lindsay Gonzalez and Dominique Price each made a leap of 4.74 meters in the long jump, tying for 23rd place out of 32 competitors. That height equals Meredith Weavil's program-record performance back on Feb. 16, 2002.

Jessica Clendenning completed the pole vault in 3.20 meters, tying for 14th out of 21 vaulters. She narrowly missed her own program record of 3.35 meters, set last season.

Jennifer Pearce ended up 12th out of 25 runners in the 800-meter run, clocking in at 2:27.38. The Phoenix indoor record in the 800-meter run was set last season by Alana Black in 2:20.92.
