BLOUNT EARNS CAA WEEKLY HONOR
Elon junior
Katie Blount was named the CAA Women's Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday following her record-breaking performance at the Raleigh Relays last Friday. Blount captured the 10,000-meter title at the prestigious meet, clocking a school-record time of 33:31.63 to finish first in a field of 72 competitors. Her mark not only broke the previous Elon record of 33:43.82, set in 2021, but also stands as the fastest time in the event by a CAA runner this season. The performance ranks as the 20th fastest in the nation this year and is the top 10,000-meter time by a CAA athlete since 2017.
CAA INDOOR CHAMPIONS
Elon is coming off a title-winning trip to Boston last month where it won the 2026 CAA Indoor Track & Field Championship, scoring 135 points to outpace reigning champion Hampton (121.5) and third-place North Carolina A&T (93). It was the Phoenix's second CAA indoor title, following its championship in 2023. Juniors
Adriana Clarke and
Abby Beville led the way as individual champions. Clarke broke her own school record in the weight throw with a mark of 20.04 meters, while Beville won the mile in 4:46.96. The meet featured three Elon school records, with
Mya Lee setting a new mark in the 60-meter dash (7.50) and
Jenna Gilman doing the same in the 800 meters (2:08.35). Elon also excelled in distance events, with
Katie Blount finishing runner-up in both the 3,000 and 5,000 meters. Gilman and Beville joined forces with
Julia Bell and
Quinn Smith in the 4x800 relay to post a top-10 all-time school performance of 9:01.19.
ELITE UNDER ELLISTON
Elon Director of Track & Field and Cross Country
Mark Elliston is in his 20th season at the helm of the Phoenix. Under his guidance, Elon has captured a combined eight CAA titles in indoor and outdoor track & field, along with four runner-up finishes. A six-time CAA Women's Track & Field Coach of the Year, Elliston and his staff led the Phoenix to the 2025 CAA outdoor title – the program's fourth in the past five seasons – and saw 10 athletes collect All-CAA accolades.
UP NEXT
The Phoenix will compete at the Duke Invitational in Durham next week between April 9-11.
