RALEIGH – Junior
Katie Blount set a school record and won the 10,000-meter run to lead the Elon women's track & field team on the second day of the Raleigh Relays on Friday at the Paul Derr Track & Field Facility.
Blount crossed the finish line in 33:31.63 to break the previous program record of 33:43.82 set by Maria Ahm at the 2021 Raleigh Relays. The race, originally scheduled to begin shortly after 10 p.m., was delayed by weather and did not start until nearly 11 p.m.
Her performance highlighted a strong night for Elon's distance group, which produced multiple personal-best efforts and program top-10 marks.
Hannah Weber added a top-10 finish in the same event, placing 10th with a personal-best time of 33:53.07 that ranks No. 4 in program history.
Jasmine Young also posted a personal-best 34:55.77 in the 10,000 meters to move into No. 8 all-time at Elon.
Elon continued to post improvements across the track. In the 1,500 meters,
Abby Beville recorded a personal-best 4:21.75 to move into No. 6 all-time at Elon while finishing 33rd.
Julia Bell also posted a personal best in the event at 4:28.10.
In the sprints,
Amelie Meier (11.92) and
Teri Pridgen (12.02) each ran personal-best times in the 100 meters, moving into No. 7 and No. 10, respectively, on Elon's all-time list.
Mary Sollars added a personal-best effort of 56.81 in the 400 meters.
The Phoenix distance runners added more depth in the 5,000 meters as
Madison Galindo placed 18th with a personal-best 17:02.47, while
Cami Glebocki also notched a personal-best time of 17:38.41.
In field events,
Isabella Johnson led Elon in the discus with a throw of 47.05 meters (154'4"), finishing 12th overall.
Elon also saw competition in the hurdles and jumps, with
Ja'mia Johnson pacing the Phoenix in the 100-meter hurdles (14.46), while
Hannah Schonhoff and
Lizzie Lopez each cleared 1.62 meters (5'3.75") in the high jump.
