STATESBORO, Ga. – Pramote Malasitt claimed his 11th consecutive victory at No. 1 singles and Sebastian Bredberg posted his seventh straight win at No. 3 in Elon's 5-2 Southern Conference men's tennis setback at Georgia Southern Wednesday afternoon at Hanner Courts.
Malasitt (13-1 overall, 6-0 Southern Conference) handled Vincent Patry 6-0, 6-1 while Bredberg (10-4, 4-2) rallied past Lasha Janashia 5-7, 6-4, 10-6. After splitting his first six matches this spring at the No. 4 position, Bredberg has forged a 7-1 ledger since moving up to the No. 3 spot, including a 3-0 mark versus league opponents.
The Eagles (3-12, 2-2) captured the other four singles flights. Danie van den Heever (6-4, 6-4 over Austin Fenn at No. 2), Tom Green (6-4, 6-3 over Brian Edmundson at No. 4), Germano Knorr (6-0, 6-1 over Alex Garrett at No. 5) and Charles-Henri Trottet (6-3, 6-1 over Kyle Smialek at No. 6) emerged victorious.
The Phoenix (3-11, 0-6) picked up a win at No. 1 doubles when the Malasitt and Fenn duo (9-3, 5-1) dispatched Patry and van den Heever 8-4 for their sixth triumph in a row. GSU claimed the doubles point with victories at No. 2 (Janashia and Knorr over Edmundson and Smialek 8-4) and No. 3 (Green and Trottet over Bredberg and George Memory 8-2).
Elon visits The Citadel at 2 p.m. Thursday and Georgia Southern visits Furman at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
