SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference today named Elon baseball player Gary Morris as the TIAA-CREF Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of April 13.
Morris, a senior from Franklin, N.C., led the Phoenix to a 4-0 record on the week, including a 10-3 win over the sixth-ranked North Carolina Tarheels on April 6 and a sweep of Southern Conference foe Furman.
For the week, Morris (pictured right) hit .474 with three doubles, one triple, one home run and seven RBI. In the second game against Furman on April 9, Morris went four-for-six from the plate with one home run, four RBI and two runs. In the series finale, Morris was two-for-four with two doubles and four runs. He struck out only one time in his 19 at bats during the four games. Morris also leads Elon in doubles with 12 on the season.
In the classroom, Morris carries a 3.67 GPA, majoring in environmental studies.
