ELON, N.C. – Pramote Malasitt, Austin Fenn, Sebastian Bredberg, Kyle Smialek and Alex Garrett all came away with singles victories as Elon turned back North Carolina A&T 5-2 in a nonconference men’s tennis match Tuesday afternoon at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
The Aggies (8-11) began the match by capturing the doubles point from the Phoenix (5-13) as Damon Martin and Porter Myrick defeated Bredberg and George Memory 8-3 at No. 2 and Vitas Hawley and Jerome Kirkland ousted Smialek and John Garnett 8-2 at No. 3. Elon earned a victory at No. 1 when the Malasitt and Fenn duo (12-4) dispatched Jeremy Martin and Eldred Stephens 8-4.
In singles action, Malasitt (16-2) beat Damon Martin 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1, Fenn decisioned Kirkland 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2, Bredberg (12-6) knocked off Jeremy Martin 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3, Smialek staved off Hawley 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5 and Garrett downed Stephens 6-2, 6-4 at No. 6. NCAT picked up a win at No. 4 when Myrick outlasted George Memory 7-6 (6), 6-4.
Elon returns to Southern Conference play with a 2:30 p.m. match at Appalachian State Thursday.
