NORMAN, Okla. – The Golf Coaches Association of America has selected Elon University’s Keith Orlen as a 2005 GCAA/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar. Elon has landed one golfer on the team during each of the past six seasons since officially joining the NCAA Division I ranks.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status, nominees must have played in at least 70 percent of their team’s competitive rounds while maintaining both a sub-76.0 scoring average for the current season and a minimum 3.20 cumulative grade-point average. The team consists of 86 NCAA Division I student-athletes.
A business administration major, Orlen made three appearances on the Dean’s List during his academic career at Elon. The South Hadley, Mass. native concluded his collegiate golf career this past spring, receiving the coach’s award from his team at Elon’s annual athletics banquet in May.
Orlen played in 11 of Elon’s 12 tournaments this past season, logging a 75.14 scoring average for 29 rounds – the second-best average on the Phoenix squad – while collecting six top-20 finishes, including five top-10 places. He fired a one-under-par 71 on four occasions and tied for first place in a pair of tournaments – winning one of the two playoffs for medalist honors – during his final campaign.
