Elon Adds Dolan and Butcher to Women's Tennis Squad

ELON, N.C. – Coach Elizabeth Perry has announced the addition of Elizabeth Dolan (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) and Whitney Butcher (Ashland, Ky./Paul G. Blazer) to the Elon University women’s tennis team this fall. Both players will compete as freshmen next season. Dolan is a sophomore academically.

Dolan has accepted an athletic scholarship to join Perry’s second flock of Phoenix. She is transferring to Elon after playing for the University of Illinois last year. The 5-8 Dolan helped coach Robert Waggemann’s Lake Forest High School team to a state championship in 2001. She was awarded the CDTA Qualifier Sportsmanship Award in 2002.

Competing in the Orange Bowl and Eddie Herr international junior tennis events, Dolan attained a junior ITF world ranking. She reached a USTA Girls’ 18-under ranking of No. 154 and earned ranking points on the WTA tour in doubles by reaching the quarterfinals of a challenger tournament in El Paso, Texas. She is the daughter of Danny and Mary Dolan.

Currently ranked 29th in the Girls’ 18 Southern Section, the 5-9 Butcher signed a National Letter of Intent this spring. Last month, she finished in second place in the Girls’ 18 Singles of the Joe Creason Kentucky Junior Qualifier Tournament at the Kentucky Tennis Association in Louisville.

Butcher has reached regional champion, regional player of the year and all-area team status during her prep career. She helped coach Eddie Sizemore’s Paul G. Blazer High School squad to a regional title her junior season. She is the daughter of Michael and Lisa Butcher.
