CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Elon University men’s basketball player
Chris Chalko (South Bend, Ind./Marion) was today named to the
ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III University Division Basketball First Team.
The squad recognizes six student-athletes from NCAA Division I institutions in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia as selected by a vote of members of the College Sports Information Directors of America within the district. Chalko is now eligible for consideration for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team, to be announced next month.
A 6-8 forward, Chalko leads the team with 12.9 points per game, 100 made field goals and 59 three-point baskets. He shoots 44.8 percent from the field and 38.3 percent from three-point range while also pulling in 4.7 rebounds an outing (104 rebounds). Chalko is sixth among Southern Conference players in three-point field goals made, averaging 2.68 treys a game.
A junior athletically, Chalko has posted 14 double-digit scoring games this season with highs of 30 points, 24 points and 21 points. He posted 30 points and seven three-pointers in a Jan. 18 win over Montreat. Chalko has twice tallied six three-pointers in a game this season. He recorded 18 points and six threes in a Jan. 27 game at Davidson and 19 points including six treys in a Jan. 9 win at Chattanooga.
In the classroom, Chako boasts a 3.64 cumulative GPA. A senior academically, Chalko is majoring in exercise sport science and minoring in psychology. He is a three time Dean’s List member and three time President’s List member while also being named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll six times. He was twice named to the Southern Conference Honor Roll and once to the Big South Presidential Honor Roll and has been a member of the Southern Conference Academic All-Conference Team. Chlako has earned TIAA-CREF Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week accolades five times, including twice in 2005-06 (Jan. 4 and Jan. 25).
