With the victory, Kernodle (pictured right) improved to 12-7 overall this spring. She currently sports a 5-1 record at No. 2 singles and a 6-3 ledger in the Southern Conference. Kernodle is 4-0 since making the permanent move from No. 3 singles to No. 2 earlier this month.
The match marked the league finale for both the Terriers (13-10 overall, 6-3 SoCon) and the Phoenix (7-12, 2-7). Wofford received singles wins by Ellen Rogers at No. 1 (over Kelly Fleck 6-7, 6-1, 10-6), Cayley Wetzig at No. 3 (over Melissa Holland 6-1, 6-0), Adriane Hodges at No. 4 (over Whitney Butcher 6-1, 6-2), Ashley Page at No. 5 (over Alli Benton 6-0, 6-1) and Lauren Prickett at No. 6 (over Katie Nicholson 6-0, 6-1).
Wofford swept the three doubles matches as Hartness and Rogers defeated Butcher and Kernodle 8-2 at No. 1, Hodges and Page edged out Fleck and Holland 9-7 at No. 2 and Prickett and Wetzig held off Benton and Nicholson 8-6 at No. 3.
Elon will wrap up its home schedule when Longwood visits the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center at 3 p.m. Friday for the 2006 Phoenix Senior Day. Elon will honor its three seniors – Fleck, Holland and Kernodle – prior to the match.
The Phoenix will also wait to find out its final seeding and opponent for upcoming Southern Conference tournament action, slated for April 20-23 in Charleston, S.C.
