Elon's Rodebaugh Named League Co-Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The Southern Conference today named Elon’s Robert Rodebaugh and UNC Greensboro’s Guy Welsh the league’s baseball Co-Players of the Week, while UNCG’s Patrick Currin was tabbed as the conference’s Pitcher of the Week.

Rodebaugh helped the Phoenix to a 3-1 record last week, including a series win over Georgia Southern. The junior designated hitter hit .571 (8-for-14) with four runs scored, had five extra base hits, was walked three times and drove in 12 runs. In the series with GSU, Rodebaugh equaled his single game high with five RBIs in each of the final two games against the Eagles. The Marietta, Ga. native notched three multi-hit outings, posted a 1.071 slugging percentage and also had a .684 on-base percentage.

Welsh guided the Spartans to their seventh straight three-game series win over Furman by hitting .667 (8-for-12). The junior third baseman from Tucson, Ariz. notched multiple hits in each of the three games, including a 3-for-4 outing in a loss that also saw him drive in three of the team’s four runs. Welsh then went-2-for-3 on Saturday and closed out the series going 3-for-5. He also didn’t commit an error in 12 chances and was walked twice.

Currin notched each of UNCG’s wins on the mound over the weekend, with both victories coming in relief versus Furman. A senior right-handed pitcher from Chapel Hill, N.C., Currin posted a 0.00 ERA in three total appearances covering 6.2 innings of action. He gave up only seven hits and struck out six while walking only one.

Others considered for the Player of the Week award included The Citadel’s Zach Brown (.375 average with three doubles and two RBIs).

Others considered for Pitcher of the Week were The Citadel’s Link Saunders (three saves and four Ks in 3.2 innings of work), Elon’s Chad Tilley (two saves in two appearances that covered 3.0 innings), Georgia Southern’s Everett Teaford (struck out six and scattered nine hits in his third complete game of the season) and Western Carolina’s Greg Holland (recorded two saves and had a 0.00 ERA in 6.0 innings).
