CHATANOOGA, Tenn.- The Elon University softball team is set to start the 2006 Southern Conference Championship in Chattanooga, Tenn. on Wednesday afternoon. Elon, the number six seed, will face third-seeded Georgia Southern at 5 p.m. at Jim Frost Stadium.

The Phoenix are 2-0 all-time against the Eagles in the Southern Conference Championship. Elon downed Georgia Southern 7-6 last season and 6-4 in 2004.

Georgia Southern leads the all-time series 9-5 after taking two of three games from the Phoenix earlier this season.

In its first two years in the leauge, Elon posts a 4-4 record overall, going 2-2 each season. Last season, the Phoenix defeated East Tennessee State 4-2 in the first round before falling to College of Charleston 3-1. Elon came back to beat Georgia Southern 7-6 but fell 4-0 to Furman to be eliminated from the tournament.
