Elon is coming off its most successful season in program history. In 2006, the Phoenix went 45-18, won the Southern Conference regular season title and made its second appearance in the NCAA Division I Regionals where Elon knocked off Mississippi State before bowing out of the tournament.

Virginia went 47-15 a year ago. Elon will also face Coastal Carolina (30-27 a year ago) on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and North Florida (34-21 in 2006) at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon in the tournament.
