The Runnin’ Bulldogs (0-4) claimed an early 1-0 lead, capturing the doubles point when Jenny Gomez and Monica Walser slipped past Moore and Paige Kensrue 9-7 at No. 2 and Ellis and Carol Pancia edged Hayley Wahl and Whitney Butcher 8-6 at No. 3.
The Phoenix (2-1, 2-0 at home) picked up a win at No. 1 doubles when Deanna Bailey and Jenn Tucci dispatched Amy Beavers and Laura Kriett by an 8-3 margin.
Tucci defeated Walser 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 singles to tie the match up 1-1 and Bailey beat Kriett 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 to give Elon the lead for good at 2-1. Kensrue stretched the Phoenix advantage to 3-1 via a 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Gomez at No. 4.
After Moore clinched the victory for Elon, Wahl (2-6, 6-2, 6-2 over Beavers at No. 5) and Francie Rudolph (6-3, 5-7, 6-3 over Pancia at No. 6) completed the singles sweep. In an exhibition match, Butcher dispatched Krystina Sigmon 6-2.
The Phoenix will hit the road this weekend, visiting Charlotte for an 11 a.m. non-league contest Saturday.
