No. 43 Elon Beats UNCG For Third-Straight Win

ELON, N.C. – Elon extended its winning streak to three consecutive victories, following its 7-0 Southern Conference men’s tennis triumph over UNC Greensboro Tuesday afternoon at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center. 

The Phoenix (12-2 overall, 3-0 SoCon) entered the contest ranked No. 43 nationally in this week's FILA Collegiate NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Rankings, up from No. 51 last week and No. 57 when it debuted in the poll the previous week. 

Elon swept all nine matches from the Spartans (4-8, 0-3). In the doubles, Damon Gooch and Mason Schermerhorn defeated Andrey Bubnov and Arsel Kumdereli 8-3 at No. 1, Gustaf Asplund and Anuwat Dalodom downed William Adeimy and Martin Redelinghuys 8-5 at No. 2 and Phoenix co-captains Austin Fenn and Sebastian Bredberg bested Taylor Befus and Jason Steinhorn 8-3 at No. 3. 

In the singles, Gooch toppled Bubnov 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1, Dalodom dispatched Redelinghuys 3-6, 6-2, 10-3 at No. 2, Schermerhorn ousted Kumdereli 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3, Bredberg turned back Ian Conchar 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4, Asplund topped Steinhorn 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 and Fenn staved off Adeimy 7-6 (1), 6-4 at No. 6. 

UNC Greensboro hosts Richmond at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the UNCG Tennis Courts. Elon hosts College of Charleston at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
