ELON, N.C. -- Darren Powell, Elon's head men's soccer coach, today announced the selections of three team captains for the 2007 campaign. Senior Alex Barake (Chesterfield, Mo.), junior Will Mason (Russell, Ohio) and sophomore Steven Kinney (Norcross, Ga.) will serve as captains this year.
Barake, a midfielder, started 10 games and tallied one assist last season. Mason, a midfielder, started 19 of Elon's 20 matches and notched three assists. Kinney, a defender, was one of only three players to start all 20 contests last season and scored three goals in his freshman campaign.
"These three players are strong, positive characters in our program who the players all respect," said Powell. "We decided to have a captain from each academic class this year to represent the whole team with our vision. This worked well in the spring and we expect their good leadership to continue this fall."
