ELON, N.C. -- The UNC Greensboro Spartans netted a goal in each half to defeat the Elon Phoenix by a 2-0 margin in Southern Conference women's soccer action from Rudd Field on Thursday night. The match was the regular season finale for both squads who will advance into the 2008 SoCon Tournament which begins on Sunday. The Spartans, undefeated in their last 31 league contests, are now 15-4-1 overall and 10-0-1 on the year. The Phoenix now sits at 8-8-2, 4-6-1.
UNCG got on the board just over 20 minutes into the game when Leigh Riordon took a corner that was deflected by Nicole Danford. Lauren Lopez found the ball and knocked home her third goal of the season.
Both teams had other scoring opportunities in the first 45 minutes but were unable to capitalize.
With the score still at 1-0, Katelynn Donovan was able to control a loose ball in the box and bang home an insurance goal, her 12th marker of the season, at 72:22.

Sydney Little and
Lizz Johnson split the 90 minutes evenly. Little made two saves in the first half while Johnson stopped one shot in the second.
UNCG's Kelsey Kearney made two save while recording her ninth shutout of the year.
The Spartans took 13 total shots, putting five on frame, while the Phoenix got off six shots, two of which were on goal.
Elon will enter the SoCon Tournament as the seventh seed and will travel to Western Carolina for a match on Sunday. UNCG will host a match on Sunday as the tournament's top seed.
