ELON, N.C. – Forward
Brett Ervin (Buckhannon, W.Va./Robert C. Byrd HS) has chosen to sign a National Letter of Intent to play basketball for the Elon Phoenix beginning with the 2009-10 season Elon head coach Ernie Nestor announced on Wednesday. Ervin is the first signee for the Phoenix this year and will join fellow West Virginia natives
Chris Long and
TJ Douglas on the Elon squad next year.
Ervin (6-7, 220 pounds) is a two-time second team all-conference selection. Following a junior season in which he averaged nearly 14 points, seven rebounds and two assists, Ervin was selected first team all-county and second team all-state. That season, he helped lead Bill Bennett’s Robert C. Byrd program to a 22-3 overall record, a conference title and a state quarterfinals appearance. As a sophomore, his prep team went 19-5 and Ervin averaged around eight points and six rebounds per contest. Byrd went 17-7 in his freshman season.
“We’re excited to have Brett join our team,” said Nestor. “We believe that he has a tremendous opportunity to develop into an outstanding player for our program and we look forward to following what should be a great senior year for him at R.C. Byrd.”
Brett is the son of Michael and the late Christy Ervin.
Elon is an NCAA Division I member of the Southern Conference.
